100 Black Men of Southern Illinois Partnering with Community Agencies for Food Box Giveaway
Alton, Illinois—The 100 Black Men of Southern Illinois Inc., in partnership with, Midwest Food Bank, Alton Community Unit School District #11, 6 Feet in the Street, and Esther “Saving A Nation” will give away over 200 food boxes containing perishables, staples, and milk on Friday, April 16, 2021 starting at 10:00 a.m. at Horace Mann School in Alton. The 25-pound pre-packaged boxes are available to anyone at no cost, and there is no limit or eligibility requirement.
Bob Wills, Vice-Board Chair for the 100 Black Men of Southern Illinois said they are partnering with a number of community-based organizations for the food giveaway in an effort to promote a team effort in conquering food insecurity during the pandemic.
“As we continue to navigate these difficult times, it’s important that we do everything we can to make sure people have access to healthy and nutritious food,” said Vice-Chair Wills. “Beyond that, we want to drive home just how crucial it is for everyone to continue to wear masks in public to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. It’s important that we all continue to do our part and look out for our neighbors as much as possible.”
Food boxes can be picked up at Horace Mann School located at 2708 Edwards St. in Alton on Friday, April 16, 2021. Pick-up begins at 10:00 a.m. and continues as long as supplies last. Free boxes of food will be available through a no contact, drive-thru lane.
100 BMA Board Chair George Dickerson, said that without collaborative efforts like this, the 100 Black Men of Southern Illinois would not be able to achieve their program objectives. “The 100 would like to acknowledge and thank all of our longstanding supporters and stakeholders; who, unwaveringly, participate in the 100 Black Men’s programs which leverage our collective talent, ability, and energy toward achieving meaningful gains for the community;” Dickerson said. “100 Black Men initiatives focus on education through mentoring, wealth-building strategies, nurturing economic development, and raising awareness of health issues affecting all of us.”
